Description
The Hokore pendant: A Luminous Sculpture for Discerning Spaces
A masterpiece of light and form, the HOKORE pendant transcends mere illumination to become a captivating art piece. Its delicate interplay of light and shadow casts an ever-shifting sculptural presence, transforming any interior into a gallery of dynamic elegance.
Hokore – meaning “proud” in Japanese- draws inspiration from the quiet strength of a budding flower as it unfolds into full bloom. Meticulously crafted using takesensuji—a centuries-old technique traditionally reserved for crafting ethereal insect cages and paper lanterns—this lamp honors heritage while redefining it for contemporary living.
Each pendant is a testament to artistry, handwoven in Japan by artist Tani Toshiyuki alongside master bamboo artisans. Nearly 1,000 slender bamboo strips are interlaced with precision, creating a harmonious balance of fragility and resilience. A celebration of nature, craftsmanship, and modern design, HOKORE invites light to dance, leaving an imprint of poetic sophistication in its wake.

Artists & Craftsmanship
Motarasu, the third artisan collective under Raíz Lighting, unites visionary designers who masterfully weave contemporary aesthetics with time-honored artistry. Each piece is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship, where innovation meets the quiet grace of tradition. Drawing from global influences, cultural narratives, and minimalist refinement, every design whispers a story of its own.
Materials: Pure, Purposeful, Proven
At Motarasu and across Raíz Lighting, quality begins at the source. We seek out sustainable, unadulterated materials—raíz meaning “root” or “origin” in Spanish and Portuguese—honored for generations by artisans who shape them with ancient techniques. These are not mere objects, but heirlooms in the making: enduring, exquisite, and alive with history.
Philosophy: Design with Depth
Thoughtful. Intentional. Alive. Here, every curve, texture, and shadow serves a purpose—not just to illuminate, but to stir emotion. We embrace sustainability and ethical creation, crafting pieces that defy trends and invite mindful connection. This is design that empowers individuality while weaving deeper ties between people and their spaces.
Origins: Where Legacy Meets Light
Motarasu was born from a desire to bridge heritage and modernity, fusing Japanese and Scandinavian artisanal traditions. Its name, drawn from an ancient dialect, means “to inspire”—a mission embodied in each piece. These are creations that resonate, designed to instill confidence and kindle wonder in those who live with them.
And this, at its core, is Raíz Lighting’s promise: to bring the soul of materials, the hands of their makers, and the cultures that cherish them to discerning audiences in Europe, the UK, and the Middle East. A dream realized, one luminous piece at a time.
